Am happy to be here!
have been lurking and reading posts here for quite a while.
earlier this year I went to a monastery and took the panca sila, the five precepts. however, I did not memorise them, and did not repeat them again (though in English I reaffirm my vows everyday) and in the new year I vow to do it in pali everyday. this year (2014) I want to go deeper in Dhamma.
when I read the erudite replies I realise that though I may be more in years than some, in terms of Dhamma knowledge I do have a looooong way to go.

Re: Hi
Welcome!
Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.

Re: Hi
Welcome! Here is a link to the refuges and precepts in Pali: http://www.buddhanet.net/pali_chant.htm
To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

hi k4karma and happy new year
Aflame with the fire of passion, the fire of aversion, the fire of delusion.
Aflame, with birth, aging & death, with sorrows, lamentations, pains, distresses, & despairs ......
Seeing thus, the disciple of the Noble One grows disenchanted. SN 35.28

Unfettered at last, a traveling monk,
I pass the old Zen barrier.
Mine is a traceless stream-and-cloud life,
Of these mountains, which shall be my home?
