Hello from Bakersfield, California!

Post by jslinjr »

Hello everybody, my name is Jeff.

I have been curious about Buddhism off and on for the last 6 years. Beginning with introductions to Zen from my cousin I started out reading "The Three Pillars of Zen" by Philip Kapleau. Now I am crossing over to find myself more inclined to Theravada teachings. The past few years in this life have been a struggle for sure. I've become more angry, less open to new ideas and generally being a less than good person, but now that is getting put behind me. I am living this life to follow the 5 precepts, the noble eightfold path and becoming a better person for the good of my family and others.

I'm glad to be here and hope I can practice and learn with all of you!

Welcome Jeff! I wish you success in your chosen path!
To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

Welcome Jeff!

Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.
