To answer your question, three years ago, after reading about the psychological benefits of meditation, I attempted basic breathing awareness. After that, I became interested in the spiritual aspect of meditation and eventually stumbled across online Dhamma talks from the likes of Matthieu Ricard. I found the talks beneficial to me, and I've been a "follower" ever since :)
