Re: How common is stream entry?
I feel that people who claim to have become ariyas yet can't describe what they know or came to understand a glaring contradiction. If we want to know the conduct of ariyas in this area we need look no further than the suttas. Rarely did they ever come out and admit that they were ariyas to anyone e...

Re: Go forth, o bhikkhus !
manasikara I just have to thank you for doing your proper duty as a monk here and having some wisdom and conscience. Many of you might think it wrong not to preach, but the fact is that unless we know what we're talking about its best to keep your opinions to ourselves. This doesn't mean that if som...

Re: Richard Gombrich - Comfort or Challenge?
I don't think we can condemn Thai monks for not wanting to have much contact with women as mysoginistic or even close. There are other reasons concerning the Thai Sangha that we can bring up that reflect a mysoginistic nature especially concerning the refusal to allow any leeway for Bhikkunis. The s...

Re: Is the result of Parinibbana Annihilation?
Actually buddha had mentioned no definition could be given to a monk who has destroyed taints because the aggregates are destroyed. SO cant be defined in terms of rupa, vedana etc, that is to say he cant be said to have this kind of rupa or this kind of vedana etc,. I have forgotten the reference. M...

Re: Meditation, conditionality, and anatta
"And how is the nutriment of intellectual intention (manosañcetana) to be regarded? Suppose there were a pit of glowing embers, deeper than a man's height, full of embers that were neither flaming nor smoking, and a man were to come along — loving life, hating death, loving pleasure, abhorring ...

Re: Meditation, conditionality, and anatta
people make choices because of selfview which is sakkayaditti. Un instructed worldling take rupa as self etc., Thus, he makes kamma by doing good and bad.

Re: the great rebirth debate
There are 4 clingings.
kama upadana, ditti upadana(clinging to views), silabbatha upadana and attavada upadana. These 4 keep us in sansara. If any body can remove upadana to all ditti (views), what would happen to the person at death if he has not removed the other 3.
Thanks in advance

"Sabbe dhamma anaththa"
Hi, Nanavira thera in one of the letters has mentioned about nibbana being anaththa. He points out another source that buddha has mentioned this, and that is in Mula Pariyaya Sutta (MN.1). In this sutta does buddha mention nibbana being anatta under the section where he speaks about nibbana? Thanks ...
