Dear Ajahn Dhammanando and Nicolas,
many thanks for the reference. I think that Mahāyāna Sutra is indeed the one that he was referring to. Interesting also that Ajahn Chah would quote a Chinese Sutra... I wasn't aware that he was also well versed in that domain.
Best wishes,
with mettā,

Reference on the Buddha tasting food?
Dear Dhamma Friends, I was wondering if anybody knows the reference, probably from the Commentaries, of the following story: The Buddha and Ven. Ananda are invited for a meal at a palace. After the Buddha tastes some of the food, Ven. Ananda tells him how marvellous it is that the Buddha can eat so ...

Reference on "clinging to thought characteristics"?
Dear Dhamma Friends,
I am looking for the reference to the sutta in which the Buddha asks us "to refrain from clinging to either the major signs or the minor characteristics of thought", which I can't seem to find... Does anybody know which one this would be?
Many thanks in advance,
Sati1

This website says that the event is recorded in the commentary to DN20, but I couldn't really find it there. Not quite sure where it originated...

Re: Maghā Pūjā
Hello,
does anybody know the canonical source where the history of the spontaneous meeting of 1,250 arahants on Magha Puja Day is described? Is it available in English somewhere?

Parents gaining merit for son's ordination - canonical support?
Hello and happy new year to the Dhamma Wheel community,
I was wondering if anybody knows of any canonical texts that support the common belief that when a man ordains his parents will receive merit.
Many thanks, in the Dhamma,

Mahasi Sayadaw's "The Progress of Insight" in Pāli?
Hello,
Does anybody know where I could find the version in Pāli of Mahasi Sayadaw's "The Progress of Insight", as he originally wrote it? I am trying to get a better sense of the text that Nyanaponika used for his translation into English.
Many thanks,

Re: Santi and Api Santi in AN 4:199
Dear Sylvester, Thank you very much for the reply. That "santi" stands for "siyan ti" clarifies the question. After reading your post, I looked up the commentary on the next phrase, "api ha santi", which says that "api nāma aham bhaveyyan ti evam patthanākappanavas...

Santi and Api Santi in AN 4:199
Hello, Does anyone know what the origin of the word "santi" in the phrase "santi hoti" ("I may be" by Bhikkhu Bodhi) is? Similarly, where does "api ha santi" in "api ha santi hoti" ("May I be?") come from? "Santi" as 3rd person pl...

Hola Pumo, Bienvenido a Dhamma Wheel! Yo también soy de México, pero voy a escribir en inglés por ser el idioma del foro (por el momento también estoy viviendo en Inglaterra). I recommend that you visit Dhamma Vihara in Veracruz, just outside Jalapa, about 2-3 hours from Puebla. It is the only Thera...

Re: A few questions on Pāli grammar
Dear Sylvester and Dhamma_Basti, Many thanks for the additional posts. This clarifies the question about anupassii and how that phrase it is constructed. I found the quote from Fahs particularly helpful (and was surprised to learn that Sanskrit can be used to learn about Pali grammar!). In the case ...

Re: A few questions on Pāli grammar
1. kāye is locative, not ablative. From my humble understanding passī should be the nominative of passin "possessing insight (poss. adjective)" so kāyanupassī works like an adjective to the nominative subject: having clear insight into the body. Yes, that clarifies the question. There is ...
