Re: Where is God in Buddhism?

The phrase brahmabhūtena attanā viharati "the atta having become (united) with brahman stays"... note the use of the instrumental case signifying "with". Are you able to cite a grammatical reference to support your reading? Both brahmabhūtena and attanā are in the instrumental c...

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?

I did some quick research on the term Brahmābhu'to (God become/became) and it appears in several suttas including MN 1.341, DN 3.84, DN 1.248, DN 1.249, SN 3.83 and SN 5.5 to name a few. Sorry I do not have the time to pull them up but wanted to get them into the discussion early because I think th...

Re: Avijjā

√vid = to know is related to √vind = to find.

a-vidyā (or its malformed equivalent avijjā) is the state of not having found (knowledge).

So the OP is right in that there is no separate thing called avidyā, it is simply the absence of vidyā

Thank you for your honest opinion, it makes no difference to me even if you did consider me one. I'm the best authority to know my self-realization, it would be odd of me to ask someone else to confirm or refute it.

Re: A logical reasoning that maybe proves there is a self

What I question is the whole notion of "arguing against the self-deniers" to begin with! I don't see any point in doing that. To an arahant, all actions after nibbana are pointless. The preaching of the Dhamma was pointless to the Buddha. But when faced with a choice of action vs inaction...

Re: A logical reasoning that maybe proves there is a self

Me? Do you mean that which sees, hears, smells, tastes, touches and thinks? Apart from these, I can not find anything that I can take for me. Can you show it apart from these?
To whom should I show?

Re: A logical reasoning that maybe proves there is a self

Who is the nibbana for? What is your answer to this? It is the sense of "I am" that experience Nibanna or what? The nibbana is for me, if I am the one striving. It is for you, if you are the one who strives. You can extinguish something that exists. You cannot extinguish something that di...

Re: Buddhists are losers?

A good thread going on here. Sadly, I would say Buddhism has done a great deal to damage my ambition and work ethic and because of that I'm paying a big price as I'm in my mid twenties and haven't even finished college yet. On top of that I feel like I have become more "anti social" as lo...

Re: Anatta - a hindrance?

"Self-deniers" You mean the puthujjanas? And you know that "Nibbana is impossible for self-deniers" how? Use logic ruthlessly until you have exhausted all the impossibilities, all perplexities have to cease. Keep doing it until you reach nibbana. Then you will get the dibbacakkh...

Re: A logical reasoning that maybe proves there is a self

I consider Theravada to be anattavada. Unfortunately there are no other early schools of Buddhism (or their readings of the canon) left, otherwise I might have gone to their forums. So, you are here to teach those of us who just do not have the right, correct, understanding of the Buddha's teaching...

No different from your own?
I believe I have found many people here who would agree with my understanding that Nibbana is impossible for self-deniers.

I'm here to discuss some finer points of the Dhamma, and I am finding the people who would understand it in the first place. I've found a few now.

Re: Anatta - a hindrance?

I already have knowledge of the self (attaññū). And all the rest of us are, to use the word you have used in this thread several times, puthujjanas. Is that not your assessment?? Not at all, there are many puthujjanas, but not all are. There are several people with very nuanced and highly evolved u...

Re: A logical reasoning that maybe proves there is a self

Could you please explain how belief in the self can help to realize Nibbana? Who is the nibbana for? As long as you keep denying self-existence, nibbana is not a possibility for you. You can extinguish something that exists. You cannot extinguish something that did not exist. Let go of all the thin...
