Re: Bhante Vimalaramsi
I really, really don't think this type of discussion should be on-list. Why not go to Private Message? Hi cooran. I think there are people who will benefit from an open discussion. And there are probably others would will simply make up their own mind and go about their way. Why do you think this d...

Re: Bhante Vimalaramsi
i don't think jack has to have met him to form this opinion, as Bhante clearly states in his book that other teachers aren't teaching meditation the way the Buddha intended. That is true, my friend. However, Jack didn't substantiate whether Bhante V's statements were true or not. Bhante V gave plen...

Re: Bhante Vimalaramsi
Hi Jack
Have you personally met him?
Do you have any base for your accusations, or are you just gossiping?

What about Buddha for a unique teacher?Jack wrote:He has a unique interpretation that is not shared by other teachers that I know about.

Re: Bhante Vimalaramsi
I haven't met him personally yet, but the people who had met him have made only positive remarks. However, as he has an unconventional teaching style drawing directly from the Suttas, it is best to gather your own impression: Some worthwhile talks> Dependent Origination w/ Bhante Vimalaramsi Vipassa...

Sounds like a plan. If his book agreed with you and you have the possibility, why not. He will lead you to Nibbana.

Re: Bhante Vimalaramsi
Bhante Vimala seems quite OK. I share his preference for the original teachings of the Buddha in the Majjhima Nikaya.

Re: Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
While i think we should try to be nonjudgmental about Michael Jackson, putting ourselves in his shoes, i think that courtesy should also be extended to folks who feel some aversion towards him, when there are sensible reasons for that. Here I don't agree, friend. There are no sensible reasons for h...

Re: Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
Let's be honest, that was pretty disturbing. I invite you to absolute self-honesty and self-forgiveness (or in Buddhist lingo "letting go"), for there is still aversion. In the Dhamma, there is no Self, so exactly what do you respect? Not-self is not equal to No-self. As Buddhists, we res...

Don't try too hard, or they will teach you.
The kids here, reminders of non-harming and two breath sessions was all I taught them. They can and will come back to it whenever they feel like it.

Re: To be Buddhist you must accept kamma and rebirth?
Most likely you're "I don't know" results in you making decisions based solely on the here and now, which is the equivalent of holding the view of no birth after death. Hello Peter. I have a question. Does that mean, if I don't know whether there is rebirth in the traditional sense, then ...

Re: Unfair Criticism?
Hi friends.
I don't know if it's fair. But what about discernment?
Isn't it more interesting to know what part of it is true and what is mere polemics?
(Asking the fair question sort of implies that you think it can't be entirely false critique.)
Kind regards,
thecap
