Re: Shaving the head
Thanks ShinMeiDokuJoh! Although, I think if electric razors are not allowed than this kind of hair clipper is also not used (because their cutting action is like that of scissors). As I'm searching more and more I start to think that perhaps this won't be such a big problem at all, because there are...

Re: Shaving the head
Thanks Bankei! I will google it...
If I use it once will it make me bald forever, or I have to use it regularly? (if so, then it'd be still a problem)
Anyway thanks for the tip, I'll search a bit, and I can also ask my dermatologist about that.

Re: Shaving the head
Just consider if you do find a place to ordain then want to travel around different wats as monks usually do you'll need to keep explaining your situation again and again with the language barrier also I think I would get along with it somehow ;) Yes, it is possible to live some kind of 'holy life'...

Re: Shaving the head
Unless ill — e.g., he has a sore on his head — a bhikkhu may not use scissors to cut his hair or have it cut. Yes, I've already quote that, and I'm hoping that birthmarks can take as 'illness' (a sore is just an example, so there have to be other cases), so I'll be able to use scissors and cut my h...

Re: Shaving the head
I'm not sure, but I'll go to the dermatologist again anyway, so perhaps I'll ask her. But for all I know, they don't like to ablate birthmarks, if not necessary (if they don't seem to turn into melanoma, for example). Also there are about 9 on my head - I don't know what the doctor would say, if I'd...

Re: Shaving the head
Yes, I'll soon send a letter to WPN, in which I mention that, but you know they answer very slowly... And I'm sure there will be a solution to your situation. I hope so too! :D I know that the Vinaya allows some hair, but as it is in the Buddhist Monastic Code: The hair of the head should not be wor...

Shaving the head
Hello everybody, I'd like to ordain as a monk at Wat Pah Nanachat some day. But now I became a bit anxious, because... I went to a dermatologist, and it turned out, that I have several birthmarks on my head (naevus pigmentosus). There is no problem with them, there is no sign that they will turn int...

Patimokkha recitation
I'm looking for the Patimokkha recitation (in the Thai Forest Tradition, if it is possible) in mp3 (or any kind of audio format) on the internet. Does anyone know where can I find it? And the pali texts would be good also...
Thanks in advance.

Re: Ordination in Thailand
Greetings, I found an interesting quote in the thaivisa forum. It's from the late E-Sangha, written by Dhammanando Bhikkhu about the ordination possibilities in Thailand. Hello all, I have lately been getting quite a few PM's enquiring about the practical details of ordaining as a bhikkhu in Thailan...

Re: Ordination in Thailand
Hi all! It's good to see this new sub-forum! Meditation in Southeast Asia: http://www.retreat-infos.de/Download/Retreats_in_Asia_Oct07.pdf In this document there are a lot of information about some monasteries in Thailand (and also in Myanmar and Sri Lanka). I hope this will be useful to someone. Me...

Re: Ordination in Thailand
Thanks for the replays. As I'm reading the topic about E-Sangha, it seems it won't come back again. All the information is lost from there. So I thing it'd be really good to collect those information here. Everything about the ordination or just about the staying as a guest in thai monasteries. Not ...

Re: Ordination in Thailand
Thank you for your tips Adosa! Unfortunately it's not so easy for me to frequently go to Thailand, I rather want to have some concrete information about the whens and wheres and so on. To say the truth I don't know much about Sri Lanka, I've heard so many good things about Thailand, so I concentrate...

Ordination in Thailand
There was a lot of useful information in E-Sangha about the ordination procedure in Thailand. As E-Sangha forum is down now, I think it would be great to collect all that information into this topic. Note: See this post for a transcript of the E-Sangha thread. e.g. monasteries for westerners (if I’m...

A Question about Ajahn Chah’s reply
People have asked about my practice. How do I prepare my mind for meditation? There is nothing special. I just keep it where it always is. They ask, “Then are you an arahant?” Do I know? I am like a tree in a forest, full of leaves, blossoms and fruit. Birds come to eat and nest, and animals seek re...
