Sammasambuddhahood, Paccekabuddhahood, Arhatship, Tipitaka... It seems perhaps you do not know what these words mean. Where did you come across them?

Re: Why will meditation not bring more loss and death?

if metta thoughts can bring good things, why wouldn't contemplating loss bring more loss? In our life there can be more or less compassion and more or less enmity. To some degree we can control and cultivate how much of one or the other. If we habitually have thoughts of enmity and do nothing about...

Re: Sammasambuddha, Paccekabuddha, Arhat

ccharles, what is the difference between those paths?
I'm not asking about the goals of the paths.
I'm asking about the paths themselves.
How will your day to day practice differ on one path vs another?

Re: Why Theravada?

There is no shortage of people who will tell you what they have is new, improved, faster, and better. That claim on it's own seems worthless to me. I started with Theravada because of all the teachings I had read, those from this tradition were the first to make some sort of sense to me. Of course, ...

Re: I'd feed a starving child before a healthy arahant

there are suttas that say an offering to an arahant yields greater merit to an offering to a non-arahant. Do these suttas instructs us to give to a "plump arahant" before giving to a "starving beggar child"? What does it mean to "yield greater merit"? I'd like to take ...

Re: Potential wasp nest problm

I have had wasps crawling in and out of a crack in my siding for a few years. Nothing ever happened to me nor to my children. I also find nests in the trees around my house. Some I knock down. Some I leave alone. The wasps never bother me unless I bother them, which mostly happens if I'm mowing the ...

Re: I'd feed a starving child before a healthy arahant

If I have an apple in my hand, and before me I see a starving beggar child, and a plump arahant on alms round, I will give the apple to the starving beggar child, yes even if that means I miss out on a million 'merit points' and a thousand years of feasting in Heaven. Please pardon me for saying so...

Re: SN 56.102-113: Pansu Suttas — Dust

It makes me think of this: Sometimes we have a positive thought, a productive thought, a thought which leads us further on the path to peace. Usually though this is followed by a negative thought, a destructive thought, a thought which leads us further into entanglement and suffering. Rare is it whe...
