Re: Torn between two worlds
I feel the same stress, being pulled in two entirely opposite directions. It tears you up, a part of your mind craves all the material things and then another part tells you there is no lasting joy in these worldly pleasures, and I feel guilty for pursuing them. I have underperformed in life (in ter...

Re: Robin Williams, depression, suicide and meditation
From what I've read, Mr. Williams had problem of not merely depression but also dependance on drugs/alcohol. He also had multiple marriages over his lifetime and the resultant stress that comes from them. So blaming his suicide on 'depression' seems rather unfocused, we might as well blame 'ignoranc...

Month 12
This month I resolve to do at least two Anapanasati sittings a day: morning and evening sittings for 60 minutes. Motivation for a third sitting has evaporated, I'll just aim to maintain two sittings/day for now. If someday I sit in afternoon I'll just add that to daily record instead of setting expe...

Re: Why Dhammawheel is not growing?
I think offering an optional questionnaire at the time of joining (what one is looking for? what are the expectations? etc) and also asking for feedback (optional of course) from members is a good idea to gauge where the forum is succeeding and where it is not. True, what makes a person register wi...

Re: Video on NY Times on persecution of Burmese Muslims
And where is the NY Times video on the relentless, barbaric persecution of every other religion by the muslims? I guess there is so much material on that these poor NYT chaps cannot find a way to edit it down to a cute little video. what bad may come out of this situation or the way it's being cover...

Re: Tips for a noisy meditation
Any useful tips on how to not get distracted by such noise?? Use earplugs. There are many different types, some are more comfortable than others, some are cheaper than others. I use cheap reusable/washable earplugs for all my sittings since I live in an extremely noise polluted enviornment, they ha...

Re: Is the Buddhasasana really in decline?
However it seems to me that this number is far less than that in the time of the Buddha. Is that so? I have the same feeling. According to suttas during Buddha's time there were gathering in which tens/hundreds of Arahants were present. Soon after Buddha's death, five hundred Arahants were present ...

The very same. Dukkha -and my desire to escape its clutches permanently- is what motivates me to meditate daily.seeker242 wrote:Essentially, dukkha.purple planet wrote:so what motivates you to practice and put effort in ?

Re: Couldn’t Dhamma protect Tibet?
I was watching the following video and wonder why Dhamma did not protect Tibetan people. Because in Tibet there is no true Dhamma, but mainly the false one. Hi Zom, wow you must have been around at the time of the Buddha then, to be able to so boldly proclaim which Dhamma is true, and which is fals...

Re: Anapanasati Help - First day meditating.
How to bring focus back to the breadth and stop allowing the mind to drift away?. When you come to notice that mind has wandered away from respiration, make a mental note ("mind has wandered") and bring it back to breath. Do it as many times as required during a sitting, with patience and...

Have you attended your first 10-day course yet, Myotai? Do so, it will help you understand many little things that cannot be appreciated by merely reading books and articles.Myotai wrote:Maybe I am misinterpreting him. I think I may have got most of it from 'The Art of Living'.
