Re: Can we re-programme ourselves?
A book I find interesting others may enjoy: "Conscious and Unconscious Programs in the Brain" Volume 1 ISBN 0-306-42243-3 by: Benjamin Kissin, M.D. From the flyleaf: ""Dr. Kissin records current observations and findings in this congenial and unusual alliance. "Conscious and...

Re: Would this break the fourth precept?
I think effective and precise communication is important, but the most important part is intention. When you mean something, but communicate it incorrectly, that doesn't make it unwholesome; you just didn't communicate well enough. Another thing with communication is that, to a certain extent, it's...

Re: killing insects
I would suggest (if it's possible) to surreptitiously save as many insects as possible on each job you're assigned to. Loosing your job over something that may seem eccentric probably isn't a good idea. But even small acts add up.

Re: Would this break the fourth precept?
I sometimes wonder what "truth" and "lies" and such actually "meant" in the society of ancient India. We can read the words but we can't "read" the person speaking them. It's said our society has taken such words and put different meanings to them (glorifying ...

But, oh what a world this would be.
Can you imagine it?
Peace on you my brothers and sisters.

From Wikipedia: "A lie is a statement that is known or intended by its source to be misleading, inaccurate, or false. The practice of communicating lies is called lying, and a person who communicates a lie may be termed a liar. Lies may be employed to serve a variety of instrumental, interperso...

Re: Is being truthful the same as telling everything?
Hello all. I read of the Three Poisons, which I understand to be: #1. Ignorance, arising from: #2. Attachment and: #3. Aversion, which some call the cause of suffering, and the root of all other kleshas. If I understand correctly, lying is done for one of two reasons: Either an individual "want...

Re: Buddha on the Unconscious
Although I'm still trying to understand Buddhism I hope I can offer this thought without offence. I understand my unconscious/subconscious memory to be an active part of my everyday brain, into which goes everything I encounter. I can leave a message in my subconscious memory: "The next time I ...

Re: I am a rock
Hi all, Sometime after my wife and I were married this song came out and my wife would always say: "That's just like you, a rock." Uncommunicative should have  been my middle name. I can now laugh about it (heh). EDIT: removed extra "my" from between "out" and &quo...

Re: Levitation and a Simple Bhikkhu
Hi, The doubts that exist in my mind are held in abeyance by the knowledge humankind is only an infant race in the vastness of the universe and greater and subtler forms of matter and energy will no doubt be discovered. But better said: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio Than are dre...

I just read an interesting article called: Do you have to be nuts to be a genius? It's a pretty interesting hypothesis and I imagine it is true in many cases. Thank you Mkoll. Some (mostly aspies?) compile lists of people who had AS or were expected to have had AS and include Nobel winners and Albe...
Re: Cannabis
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I appreciate support, in any fashion. In my newness every criticism will help me grow and metta and karuna blossom in my mind, similar to my "egg shell" being broken when I discovered my AS about 3 years ago. Thank you so much. I believe engineere...

Hi dennis, Is "aspie" short for Asperger's? I deliberatly apply the label at times. If I enter a online discussion my lack of social experience eventually becomes evident and some people, such as some concerned individuals in this thread, become curious/worried and this is what I offer. I...

As a very occasional smoker, I notice that 24 hrs later I am irritable, 48 hrs later still tired and finding it difficult to concentrate, and even 3-4 days later my meditation is still somewhat unfocussed. I cannot see how you can smoke daily while deepening a meditation practice. Thank you Dave Sa...
