Re: Penn & Teller's Bullshit: the Dalai Lama
In addition to communist propaganda, it seems like there's new kadampa propaganda, too, added to the soup. Well, basically, some cults that have separated themselves from rest of tibetan buddhism use these same arguments.

Re: when did the dhamma wheel become a boat wheel?
I think buddhist should follow their time. Both previous wheels seem to be a bit outdated. Especially now, with our modern technology, we should use a wheel that represents our time. http://mathscihelp.wikispaces.com/file/view/f1-mclaren-mercedes-steering-wheel.jpg/218091434/f1-mclaren-mercedes-stee...

Re: Theravada or Root-yana, whatever?
Sorry, I didn't get your point from that wall of text. Could you elaborate a bit, in your own words, why he should re-visit his sources. That firstly, the Theravada Vinaya may not be what he thinks 'the closest to the original' as is the Mulasarvastivadin or the Dharmaguptaka Vinayas.... hence the ...

Re: Theravada or Mahyanaa
I would go with Theravada first in either cases. I believe Theravada-tradition has the best teachings about karma.

Re: Insight arising naturally in mediation?
I tell you what my masters have told me many times: notice what is happening, don't get attached to it, and then continue doing your practice. That's it.

Re: deciding what to do without a teacher.
I don't know what you're into, but here's course which gives brief overview of each tradition. In addition, the practices themselves will be different, as Rinpoche has stated that he would like to develop Dharma Das in a way that includes aspects from many traditions of Buddhism, including Theravada...

Re: the great rebirth debate
If rebirth would be a big lie, I think Siddhartha wouldn't have gone so far and state neglecticing rebirth and karma as a wrong view. Two proponents that selves in their current rebirth state and the universe have no cause. The Pali version explains that they assert that these occur just by chance. ...

Re: Theravada or Root-yana, whatever?
Maybe Rinpoche would like to re-visit his sources... Now, if only their present day Elders would speed up work on the issue of establishing the Siksamana and Bhiksuni ordinations... Sorry, I didn't get your point from that wall of text. Could you elaborate a bit, in your own words, why he should re...
