Re: Is Buddhism unsuited towards the average westerner?

No not at all, that is a good post. I had posted not long ago about the progression of developing bodily happiness, the basic level before reaching to the next highest being meditative happiness and further nibbana. It makes sense to me that maybe I've opened up too quickly in my life, in the same w...

Re: Is Buddhism unsuited towards the average westerner?

Thank you to all for the replies. Maybe the response best to answer what you all have written is that maybe the holy life isn't what I seek? I have experienced some beautiful things in this world, some blissful states and they all seem so right. But as I develop myself further, I find that there is ...

Is Buddhism unsuited towards the average westerner?

I found this quote on a website as I searched the dangers of meditation and becoming addicte/attached to buddhism and its ideals. I have found through the last couple years that my viewpoints which have changed as I discovered peaceful states and ideologies has drastically hindered my ability to con...

Not ready for meditation?

I just heard about the 3 types of happiness: the basic body/mind level (not sure how to explain this one), the meditative state of mind, and enlightenment happiness. Would it make sense to say that one is not prepared to develop meditative happiness when they have not generated/stabilized a basic bo...

Re: Methodizing life itself

So basically, whatever I do, keep right view in mind so that the rest of the eightfold path can unravel on its own?

Re: Methodizing life itself

Not at all of Buddhism, but it's practical means.

As far as why, I don't know. That's just how I am. I think since started with spiritual discovery I've managed to see more than I can handle... And I'm now trying to find a calmer place to stay on this boat while keeping on the same journey.

Re: Methodizing life itself

That sounds terribly lovely :p haha how could I go about exploring that? I always end up feeling too vulnerable when open up too much Most recently I've decided to live life by simply being with my cravings and aversions, life feels a little looser like this, does this make sense as a life technique?

Re: Methodizing life itself

Quick example... The feet example I posted above By relaxing and keeping the feet muscles calm and in good posture, I find the rest of the body can naturally follow and become relaxed and able. Good posture follows, and the confidence that can come from that. Now maybe this is a smart realization as...

Methodizing life itself

I can learn so much about buddhism, psychology, working of the mind etc but in the end it always turns out 1 way for me. I'll try out something new as far as my idea of mental development and practice goes (examples: turn the mind inward, or relax the feet posture to help relax the way it holds the ...

Mindfulness of the brain?

Has anyone here tried spending time aware of the brain? As a body part? Like you would the feet in walking or the nostrils in breathing?

Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Re: Thoughts, mental stories, dhammas... For my personality

No you may be right on there, I've considered joining my Buddhism studies with psychotherapy as of course I can not expect meditation to heal me emotionally, and this is always what I thought. As far as keeping it simple goes, I have trouble with the idea of not investigating deeply all day. By many...

Thoughts, mental stories, dhammas... For my personality type

I've been struggling with life and meshing socially lately. When I was younger I always felt important and approved of, but nowadays I'm more anxious, unconnected and Buddhist :p just messin, but seriously I think most of the problems I've developed have been due to misunderstanding of the teachings...

Cultivating ALL brahmaviharas towards oneself

I am mainly speaking about the cultivation of these attitudes during daily life. I commonly hear of directing goodwill (metta) and equanimity towards oneself. But the descriptions of compassion (karuna) and joy (mudita) are always in terms of another. If metta and equanimity can be directed towards ...

Defilements and the old me

Everyone remembers how they used to be before they discovered Buddhism and a more truthful way to live. For some, including me, this past vision of oneself had a certain flare and spark which seems hard to come by in the want-to-be genuine new self. I realized very recently that this image I had of ...
