Re: Hi, might be here for some time - Gwyddion
The temple is not called buddhavihara anymore it is actually the representative temple of wat mahathat in England and is now called way mahathat itself. Vippassana is not a major practice at this temple in kings Bromley, but it is my personal specialism despite this. The shari'a specialism seems to ...

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
My understanding of Nirvana was that once the illusion of self and all defilements are eradicated who is left to experience a state anyway? as there needs to be a self to be in a state.

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
Yes sorry I missed your post, definitely as in maha boowa. Do you think he is veering off from the Buddhas teaching in this respect?

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
Anyone want to try answering my updated question without dancing around with mysticism? Also yes the Buddha did not teach one to think 'nothink' if you want to do beyond concepts you have to realise this is also a concept. As for the monks here most of them become monks to get an education, and ther...

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
It would seem all the sine-wave graphic explains is that Karma moves from one state to the next, vacillation if you will - and that Buddha nature is the stationary black line in the middle - it either needs to have more explanation alongside it with a better key, or it is a very basic and doesn't ex...

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
It also frustrates me these new-age cliches, because it covers up the Dhamma and muddies the water. I live in a Buddhist temple and I hear it all the time from people who visit and think they are experts on Buddhist/Dhamma, but i'm patient and I listen, everyone deserves that at least. I should be a...

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?
As I understand it: Brahman, in Hinduism, is "sat-cit-ananda" meaning "unaltered existence-consciousness-bliss" which is usually regarded as ātman ("true self"). Citta, in Buddhism, means consciousness that is, like every other conditioned things, is impermanent, suffe...

Difference between Citta and Brahma?
What is the difference between the Buddhist concept of 'Citta' and the Hindu concept of 'Brahman'? And did the Buddha actually teach the concept of Citta or is this something that came later.
Thank you
Thank you

Hi, might be here for some time - Gwyddion
Hi everyone - looking for a decent forum to discuss Buddhism - I'm living in a Theravada temple at the moment as a lay-person - going to become a monk in the Thai tradition - not a forest monk though, not yet at least. Got loads of questions, hopefully a few answers to share too. Metta to you all :n...

Labeling confusion
Hi I wonder if anyone could clear this up for me - When noting during insight meditation do you literally say the word of noting in your head? Such as "ris-ing" "fall-ing?" The reason I ask this is because it seems the words used during one's insight meditation mask the phenomeno...
