Re: On Being and Selfhood

He is anti-abhidhammika from this topic: http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=411671#p411671 He maybe confuse between two topics, or maybe try to avoid administrator (mikenz66) of those forum, or maybe try to let you all know "TheY is a credulous person in tale", or maybe really need...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

Like I said, we'll have to agree to disagree. I find it strange that you admit to having terrible English skills, yet you continue to make incomprehensible arguments and expect me to understand them. Perhaps once you've become more proficient with English, you will be able to make your point clear ...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

... Thank you for your apology. I understand that you think the translations of Ven. Bodhi, Ven. Thanissaro, Ven. Uppalavanna, Ven. Nanamoli, and CAF Rhys Davids/Woodward are all incorrect. However, I do not and you have not presented enough of an argument to convince me otherwise. We'll have to ag...

Sama as "samaṃ". Dhara as "dhārati". That's all. You don't gave me any contexts. So I can not translate out of samadhi word. I asked out of curiosity because I have saw you translate other things better. I meant in the context of meditation/jhana. Some translate "concentrat...

-False. The Abbhidhama did not exist until 3rd buddhist council. You can talk with scholar payutto in this book: http://www.watnyanaves.net/uploads/File/books/pdf/know_the_pali_canon_clearly_and_correctly.pdf He is Invited lecturers at Pennsylvania University in 2515, and Invited lecturers at Swart...

Re: Linguistics Reason: Ananda Memorized Sutta For The Other, But Sariputta Memorized Abhidhamma That Buddha Directly Ta

Abbhidhamma is a latter addition to buddhism only found in theravada tradition. Any scholar will tell you it was added centuries after the pali canon and it has different linguistics. For 500 years, all monks were forced to memorize the sutta pitakka and vinaya pittaka. That is already 10.000pages ...

Re: Twilight on Not Self

Yes I agree. I did not understood you too well at first. I taught you are trying to say that there is a self Translated tipitaka translate atta of sakkayaditthi as self, so I have to make sure you don't misunderstand like that translator. Another, people who understand like this need to understand ...

Re: Twilight on Not Self

So what are you trying to say ? Are you trying to say that there does exist a self but it is conditioned ? :juggling: There does not exist atta of sakkaya-ditthi. There does exist a condition (causes and effects). Condition, is called "self", but wisdom understand it in right relation, su...

Hi, theY Pardon this tangential question, but what is a "goukrit"? Your boss. Generally, it is advisable to provide cogent arguments when making a claim, especially about what happened at the Buddha's time. The exercise would certainly benefit us. Your application have not abhidhamma, com...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

I did not lie. CAF Rhys Davids/Woodward is not the same as TW Rhys Davids/Stede. The former translated SN whereas the latter made the dictionary you quoted. CAF Rhys Davids was TW Rhys Davids' wife. Here is the CAF Rhys Davids/Woodward translation of the sutta: Thank you. That is my mistake. Howeve...

Buddha Vacana wrote:Does the author provide any kind of evidence or clue leading to that conclusion, aside from speculations?

Hello, Goukrit. How about your new dipitaka?

Linguistics Reason: Ananda Memorized Sutta For The Other, But Sariputta Memorized Abhidhamma That Buddha Directly Taught

Linguistics Reason: Ananda Memorized Sutta For The Other, But Sariputta Memorized Abhidhamma That Buddha Taught Him Directly Abhidhamma is sutta, that sariputta learned from buddha. Sariputta and buddha taught abhidhamma to whole of 500 arahanta, then 500 arahanta bless it in 1st sangayana. So abhid...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

I think I agree with TheY. The sutta appears to make more sense with "desire/ attached to" instead of "being". Witch is quite shocking cause that means some of B.Bhodi or other english translators might be wrong. This sutta has always looked out of place for me. Thank you for th...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

What is the distinction between a being and a self? When selfhood is discarded, can there be the valid category of "being" still applied? Furthermore, what is the difference between a birth, a self, and a being? You should reference sutta to show, what are your references for each word. B...

You're free to interpret it however you'd like, theY. No, I translate it by listening to many teachers such as commentary, sub-commentary, dictionaries, and present teachers. So, It is not my own idea. It is your conclusion. Of course we base our conclusions upon what we've learned from others, but...

Re: On Being and Selfhood

To me being and self are similar ie. convenient labels or conventions. Take for instance a caterpillar. Where does it come from and where did it go to? Or the tadpole. Always changing but not actually "dying". As chownah mentioned, we give labels when certain qualities are present. The la...
