More to the Buddhist terminology the faith is called Saddha Indriya. (faith faculty)
It is something like eye or ear.

Re: Ajahn Chandako to James - Transition to Laylife

I didn´t know him, but he seems like a very charismatic leader and genuinenly optimistic and cheerful person. Yes, he is, until you live with him at his monastery. Then you would see why people generally departed, never to return. There are more than 8 nice cabins on the monastery, but no other mon...

Ignorance and defilement are two different things.

:goodpost:

Defilement and ignorance depend on each other.
But they are not the same.
It is like Namarupa and Vinnana

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?

Goofaholix wrote: Tue Apr 09, 2024 5:27 am Ignorance is a defilement, if the minds nature was ignorance then there would be no possibility for it to be defiled by ignorance as a separate factor and there would be no possibility of freedom from it.
Ignorance and defilement are two different things.

Re: Should a Buddhist try to change the world for the better?

Greetings, But can we change the world if it is a result of causes and conditions? This is the meaningless application of generic Buddhist vernacular. Can you endeavour to say something more meaningful? Metta, Paul. :) This is meaningful. Buddha never try to change the world. What he did was try to...

Actually this is not about changing the world but changing yourself.

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?

Buddha asked us to let go of the raft once we crossed the floods.
It hints that so-called wisdom is also ignorance.
Anything arising in the mind is ignorance (rebirth-making) whichever way put it.
However, there are wholesome and unwholesome mental states.

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?

I think what Buddha meant by ignorance is the nature of the mind to repeat itself. (Bhava or rebirth)
What Buddha called wisdom is the mind is in a state of not clinging to another existence.

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?

Sounds like Buddha-nature Yes, but what about this, from AN 1.49: "Luminous, monks, is the mind. And it is freed from incoming defilements. The well-instructed disciple of the noble ones discerns that as it actually is present, which is why I tell you that — for the well-instructed disciple of...

Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?

Is the nature of the mind is ignorance? Venerable Seelawimala said that the nature of our mind is ignorance and it is not possible to see it. However, we can see the angry mind and the mind with attachment. Even if you are in a highly meditative mental state you still have the ignorance. So how do w...

Where I live $300 just pays for the monthly internet/cable tv bill.
Funny enough almost every Sri Lankan have a mobile phone in their hand.
It seems they would rather have a mobile phone than eat and buy clothes!
