Re: How can we have compassion for child abusers?

Wow......An interesting question and one that is very difficult to answer, in my opinion...........I think that we can and should....but, we perhaps should have understanding that the one or ones who were abused will not have the same view. I was abused at the age of 13 years, 9 months. The abuser w...

Re: R. H. Sharf on Protestant Buddhism

His comments and views are most interesting. I do not agree or disagree. I just keep practicing and look at him with right understanding (hopefully). We all have wisdom. We can learn from all......but there is not much reason to debate the Dharma or other things when we can use our mental and physic...

Re: One Buddhist way or many?

It seems to me that one way is the best. It is easy to be confused and overwhelmed by what one might be exposed to or have to work their way through when they are new to the study and practice of Buddhism. If we mix them up, our practice may be a weak one and not give us the results or benefits that...

What is the importance of lineage?

My fifth question is do you think that the idea of lineage and how some schools or teachers put alot of emphasis on it is in some way a way in which some schools/teachers may try to feel good about themselves or think that they are somehow more enlightened then others? Could it also lead to politica...

Does fighting between schools weaken the ability to teach?

My fourth question is do you think that those schools of monks and/or Sanghas that engage in poilitical infighting among themselves as we have seen in some Buddhist countries and cultures over the years (South Korea, Thailand, Tibet) weaken their authority to teach The Dharma? Why would they fight a...

Rituals, rites and making merit-what is the purpose?

My third question is do rituals, rites, making merit and monks, etc. really give me wisdom and strengthen my ability to be and practice compassion or is it more about my understanding of the teachings and having the ability to apply them at all times in thought, word and action correctly?

Too much emphasis on the superficial aspects of Buddhism?

My second question is do you think that in some Buddhist countries, cultures and environments there is too much or more emphasis on the superficial aspects of Buddhism (temples, robes, rites, rituals, making merit, etc.) instead of the spiritual aspects and the teachings?

Re: Will meditation make me become more monkish?

I guess that there is nothing wrong or bad about becoming more "monkish". Buddhism and it's practice is about making us wiser and more compassionate, but we still want to live the life of a layperson. We want to enjoy things (with wisdom). We want to share with others (with wisdom). We wan...

Re: Yoga and Buddhism

Both Yoga and Buddhism have the capacity, if we understand and practice them alone or in conjunction correctly and diligently, to make those of us who are or have been spritually confused or dead very much alive.....

Re: Yoga and Buddhism

How Do Yoga and Buddhism Help Us Make A Stronger Connection with Others Growing up in Brooklyn, New York was not a bad environment to grow up in at all. But what made it difficult was the feeling of being mentally and physically isolated from others. Apparently this was a feeling that many inhabitan...

Re: Yoga and Buddhism

I have been practicing them both for well over ten years (Yoga 20 years, Buddhism 12 years). I think they compliment each other very well...............It is really easy to make the practice of both of them part of our life and how we are. I started with Yoga and through Yoga came to Buddhism. My pr...

Re: What does enlightenment feel like to you?

Enlightenment....To me it means many things, one being that I feel wiser, more mindful and more compassionate today then I did the day before......I think that once we embrace Buddhism and it's practice is very much a part of our life and how we are, we continue to work toward enlightenment..........
