Re: Attainment of no thought
I means if something is providing you with wisdom, it must have some kind of wisdom to provide. If a fool unknowingly carries the words of the Buddha to a land where people are receptive and wise, thus propagating the Dhamma, with the fool having zero understanding of the Dhamma and what was just a...

Re: Attainment of no thought
So you're saying the Suttas don't contain Wisdom? Are you sure? Yes. The suttas are mere paper or electronic blobs. I'm pretty sure the Buddha's Wisdom is in there somewhere... You seem to be benefiting greatly. :buddha1: Books are not wise, but they may contain collections of words that provide a ...

Re: Existentialism and Buddhist Practice
“Why am I here?” is inappropriate attention. The task at hand is to comprehend the mental habits that lead to this type of question and abandon them. I suspect ignoring that mental habit will land you in the same boat five years down the road.

Which means that most things that happen to you (internally and externally through your senses) are basically automatic, fleeting, unsatisfying and never-ending. Neither automatic nor never ending. But you nailed it on fleeting and unsatisfying. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pratītyasamutpāda htt...

Re: Heavy Good Kamma
Below garuka kamma there is asanna kamma (kamma that is performed just before death), acinna kamma (habital actions that is repeatedly performed over the lifetime), and katatta kamma (other actions that is performed occasionally). Normally what one should focus is on acinna kamma (habit) because th...

One can see taking care of the body as an act of generosity for any future becoming that will inhabit that form, just as one would help a dear friend.

Re: Existentialism and Buddhist Practice
It is one thing, unlike fear, lust, anxiety etc., that cannot be healed by mindfulness since it cannot be observed as an arising and falling. Like Nibbana, existential angst is a stable state by itself and does not have peaks and valleys. Angst is constant and unwavering? There are not days that it...

Bhikkhus, when the liberation of the mind by loving-kindness has been pursued, developed, and cultivated, made a vehicle and basis, carried out, consolidated, and properly undertaken, eleven benefits are to be expected. What eleven? 1. One sleeps well, 2. One awakens happily, 3. One does not have b...

Reintroduction from California
Hello, I was fairly active a few years back, but I was not strong enough to avoid the bickering that is so easy on a forum. While I had not posted in years, I frequently viewed the site. With the recent updates to the TOS and moving lounge and politics to an entirely different site, along with my de...

I’m baffled at the idea that the sutta’s lack detail. It seems I am closer to dhamma when I strip away the superfluous junk and trust the sutta.

I received that from Abhayagiri years ago. It is an excellent volume. One of only a few books I keep readily available.
