Re: Some Good News for Bardologists
Eminescu was better And he even was a buddhist like many artist of that time in Paris. You have to admit, you can't say that about Shakespeare

I do not see any % regarding urbanisation in your post. From what I know, 5% was the urbanisation level at that time on the globe

Re: Jatakas
The fact that over 95% of the population of that time were peasants. And these are stories easy to digest, not higher dhamma. This is what the monks would discuss with them.

Re: Jatakas
I have noticed that many of the Jataka stories are normal and in line with the way buddha used to speak. But some are quite spectacular and give the idea that buddha was using psychic powers on a daily, if not hourly basis. They also speak very reverential of him. I believe this is because such stor...

Jatakas
Take a look at the Jātaka. Sorry for offtopic but why are they not put on accestoinsight ? I searched for them on google and never found more than 10 of them. How is one supposed to find them if they are not on accestoinsight and suttacentral ? Anyway, thanks for the link EDIT: Are they considered ...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
Of course in these cases we can claim to know which political position was "correct" based on previous experience, or after the fact via reflection. That is why intention is the thing that karma depends on, not the outcomes. "Kamma is intention" I doubt your claim that rebirth g...

Russia is the most underdeveloped country of the Northern part of the globe. It's richer than eastern europe, former yugoslavia, central asia and the caucas. 6-7 times richer than many of the countries in those areas. That because u wanted to count in only the norther hemisphere. It's richer than 8...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
But you want justice to be something that is inherent in the universe, right? You're not content with it simply being a human-made concept? It seems to me like a fundamentally amoral place, and justice is something we've come up with in order to make it a little more tolerable for ourselves. Becaus...

Re: Smile fakers
Is being considerate of how one's words might be taken by others really so terrible, dxm? I did not say that. I'm actually one of those guys too. But I do not over do it. If I am doing this, I make sure that I am doing it good enough not to appear fake and that I have at least an inch of actual des...

It's definitly not safe to be around anymore. You might get even more exposed to ideas and opinions different than your own :D Since my parents have suffered all their lifes terrible opression thanks to these censorship ideas, don't you think they at least deserve a voice ? I think we should be able...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
That sounds like a version of the argument one hears from various religions: "if you don't follow this set of beliefs, you won't be a moral person." Christians make similar claims: without God, there can be no justice, morality, etc. I used to be quite a convinced christian before. The re...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
If one does not believe in rebirth and karma, then one does not believe in justice. If one does not believe in some form of justice, then he does not believe in the notions of good/skillful an bad/unskillful actions. Regardless if he is right or wrong, this is an attitude that is not going to be con...
