Re: Two types of insights?
I am still unsure though why modern vipassana teachers don't seem to place much emphasis on investigating, but rather urge the student to simply observe the rising and falling of experiences. because this is the way deep insights arise, not through pondering over it but by observing. Because to see...

Re: Two types of insights?
Hello, I was wondering if there might perhaps be two general types of insights: seeing the 3 characteristics which are inherent in everything is understanding the first noble truth. With a deep insight you would change your understanding about these for good with thoughts about it or some 'aha!-mom...

Re: Rising body temperature whilst meditating
This can come with concentration and is not abnormal nor dangerous. There is the Tibetan meditation practice called Tummo designed to produce heat. Be happy that you get the results without extra special training.

Hi Manapa,
it's really nice to hear that the upcoming ordination of the Siladaras as Bhikkhunis in California will not have consternation as a result in England! Good news. And right from the source, right?
all the best for you!

Re: Dangers of unsupervised meditation?
If it is dangerous to practice meditation without teacher is depending as well on what you are striving for. In a ten day course you learn the first steps and might get to your first barriers. You can get along with that for many years without teacher. But if you want to progress, have insights and ...

Re: Walking meditation, inside vs. outside
The major difference between walking meditation and 'walking mindful' is probably that in the meditation one has nowhere to go, no destination, one just walks just up a few meters turns and walks back, with the mind focused on the steps, while walking mindful can be done anywhere, it might have a de...

Re: Walking meditation, inside vs. outside
The question should be where, when and how can walking meditation done most mindful and alert. if the place is quiet, with a only few flies, mosquitoes and so on, then outside is good. if outdoor is busy and noisy it's better to do walking inside. walking if done correctly and mindful can lead to en...

Although living standards are european its rather tough due to the strict teaching and better for those who really want to practice than re...

Re: Canonicity of the Bhikkhuni Garu Dhamma
I'm not as anonymous a Yuttadhammo said, just had no time and inspiration to get involved into discussions. Here is some firsthand experience of somebody involved: Since one (or two?) month(s) now I stay in Thailand as a Bhikkhuni. (more about that maybe later on another post) I was not convinced (a...

That's why I doubt it's Buddha word. It's not in line with the Dhamma as far as my limited Dhamma-knowledge lets me guess.

sutta about sqinting?
Somebody told me the following: If you come to a city where everybody is sqinting, sqint as well, saying it is the Buddhas teaching, but could not give any proof. I would be very interested in knowing if this really has been said by the Buddha and under which circumstances, referring to what kind of...
