Buddhadasa taught that.
Sir

I am not aware Ajahn Buddhadasa spoke such a teaching nor was partial to mango & macadamia ice cream. I was merely giving my personal opinion & inclinations.

Re: Are we living in the "Dhamma-declining age"?

Couldn't it be argued that speaking against such teachings, when the Buddha himself talked about rebirth, would be a "Dhamma-declining" way of teaching? It is without doubt, it is certain, the Buddha himself talked about rebirth. However, the special or unique teachings of the Buddha are ...

Re: Self and reincarnation

What reincarnates are mental tendencies. For example, you have a tendency towards mango & macadamia ice cream. This tendency or inclincation reincarnates.

Re: Are we living in the "Dhamma-declining age"?

No The discourses of the Buddha are now available in very readible forms. A great variety of interpretations of Buddha-Dhamma is easily available & accessable, so each individual can readily find what is suitable for them. Importantly, many teachers, such as Ajahn Chah, Ajahn Buddhadasa, Bhikkhu...

Re: What is the current situation of Bhikkhuni ordination?

Dennis Sheppard, President of BSWA In my mind, this speaker exemplifies much is what is of concern regarding the cult-like Ajahn Brahm tradition. It is reminiscent of the stories of Lutherism, when after converting the unruly masses to his bubble-gum Christianity, Luther's hordes invaded Rome, sack...

Re: Goldstein, Kornfield and One Buddhism - what's missing?

From Patrick Kearney’s article: “I was first struck by Kornfield’s claim that at least half of the students who attempt to do traditional vipassanâ meditation at IMS cannot do so. This is an extraordinary admission of failure for any meditation teacher or meditation centre.” At least half if not a ...

Re: Goldstein, Kornfield and One Buddhism - what's missing?

My opinion is Patrick's attack is unwarranted. It gives the impression of some kind of "attention seeking" & his dismissal of psychotherapy and assertion The Four Noble Truths are a 'cure-all' seems rather naive. The Buddhist scriptures do not show the Buddha instructing the Four Noble...

Re: The Relationship between The Three Marks

I think that conditioned phenomena are called dukkha because of the fact that they lead to experiential dukkha when dealt with unwisely, and I do not think this needs to be reified into an ontology of inherent natures. . Kenshou The scriptures do not support your viewpoint. Where in the scriptures ...

Re: The Relationship between The Three Marks

You have not supported this statement: The Dhammapada states: 277. "All conditioned things are impermanent" — when one sees this with wisdom, one turns away from suffering. This is the path to purification. 278. "All conditioned things are unsatisfactory" — when one sees this wi...

Re: The Relationship between The Three Marks

Really? Care to support that with something other than your own conjecture? I supported my statement, in my prior post, where I said the scriptures say: "What is impermanent is dukkha. What is dukkha is not-self." (SN 22.14 - 16) The suttas about meditation & vipassana, such as the Sa...

Re: The Relationship between The Three Marks

It takes someone with a rare depth of self-awareness to 'realize dukkha'. I am unsure about this "self-awareness" you are referring to but realizing dukkha will occur when impermanence is realized. When insight (vipassana) is clear, impermanence, dukkha & not-self are realized simulta...

Re: The Relationship between The Three Marks

Your love & desire for the man/woman would quickly fade because of craving or aversion. Sure. My example was simply a simile, for explanatory purposes. But when the three characteristics are seen, they result in revulsion ( nibbida ), disenchantment & dispassion ( viraga ). In short, to sho...
