Re: Leg trembling.

Does your leg go to sleep and tingle, or does it physically twitch or move involuntarily? If it is a mere sensation, then I would suggest just trying to monitor it with mindfulness. But if it's a real movement that you can't control, you're probably putting pressure on a tendon and that's not good....

Re: Jhana Question

There are those who attain arhatship (nirvana) in four ways: with insight preceded by tranquility, tranquility preceded by insight, insight and tranquility conceived in unison, or by spontaneously profoundly inspired concentrated practicing of the truth. A jhana may or may not be involved but tranq...

Re: Real Story about Kamma

Many Buddhists will not see the truth of this, and will look at it only with superstition.
Thank you. :anjali:

Re: First Jhana...a description

A clarification that some might find useful (or not). I had heard some persons say that jhanic (or near-jhanic) piti-sukha is 'better than sex pleasure' and I kind of wish I hadn't heard them say that, because it set up a misconception in me, that persisted for years and hindered my development. Be...

Re: First Jhana...a description

DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE EXPERIENCE OF THE FIRST JHANA? If so, could you please be so graceful as to share it with us? I've been attempting to attain it and have only reached the approximate-jhana. And how did you reach the 'approximate jhana'? By abandoning the hindrances. So rather than worrying abo...

Re: First Jhana...a description

But where does it say that in first jhana the mind is totally and absolutely still? It doesn't - because that comes in the second jhana, where vitakka-vicara is let go of. My interpretation of the sources above is that some thinking is ok in first jhana, but it would be totally on one's own terms, ...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

I don't think you should follow his unusual demands at all. Did you try to seek advice and help from other devas? Maybe they will understand him better than us human. Of course not. Of course not. What we are going to do, is Monday, we're going to clean the house and tidy everything up. Then I'm go...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

Many thanks, What happened to the asura you want to evict? Is he in your house? Is he gone now? I remember in Vinaya a monk had problems with non human being, many cures didn't help, then he went to abattoir and drunk blood, it helped and then the Buddha allowed it in similar cases. It seemed that ...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

I can't say that they do not interact with electromagnetic radiation at all. This is very delicate and interesting analysis and is probably much easier for intellectually inclined devas. No, devas don't cast shadows. They have their own subtle light. It's not made of photons so photons pass right t...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

Just out of curiosity, do they cast shadow on the ground or another object? I mean are they transparent/opaque in visible light? Regards. I don't know about translucent, but they exist with their own luminance. They have form and that includes solidity. I suppose you would say they're somewhat opaq...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

Hi Son, Try the meditation below: "[6] "Furthermore, you should recollect the devas: 'There are the devas of the Four Great Kings, the devas of the Thirty-three, the devas of the Hours, the Contented Devas, the devas who delight in creation, the devas who have power over the creations of ...

Re: Samatha to See Gods.

Many thanks, I haven't been to Thai or Sri Lanka or other Therevada countries. In my country, Vietnam, AFAIK, some people may see something but they are extremely poor at science and even dhamma, and they let their ego play a big part in the explanation. Some people may see it accurately, but it se...
