Re: To those who have ordained or plan to ordain
What is currently holding you back from ordaining? Familiy, especially 3 underage children How long have you been practicing Buddhism? 14 years, first tibetan for now about 2 years Theravada How old are you (not really relevant, just curious)? 42 (wouldn´t it be easy if this would be the answer to ...

Re: Bhikkhu Bodhi on world hunger and "conscientious compassion"
Seven billion now would be fifteen billion in a few more decades with better technology and health care universally available, and there would be even more pressure on finite resources like water and land than there is now. Instead of three billion living in poverty, there would be five or ten bill...

From the Kalama Sutta "'If there is a world after death, if there is the fruit of actions rightly & wrongly done, then this is the basis by which, with the break-up of the body, after death, I will reappear in a good destination, the heavenly world.' This is the first assurance he acquires....

Re: Paid dhamma teachers
Probably my viewpoint may help within this discussion. In the last years i spent a good amount for different projects. A big part went to the upkeep of a local sangha. At that time they asked for some generous people to help as there was temporary not enough income through dana to hold the rooms. Be...

Teacher in the west with the most influence
Hello, in the tibetan sects of buddhism this question is easy to answer. There are the Dalai Lama or a Karmapa as sect leaders. What do you think, which are the (living) theravadin teachers with the most influence in the west? Who would you name if asked for three persons? And who do you value highl...

Now I have a career (no relationship or kids luckily) and I'm essentially stuck in this life (full of stress and deadlines, mind you). Now for me ordaining is "that unobtainable dream". What exactly is holding you back? You said, you don´t have a girlfriend/wife or kids. Who else is depen...

Analytic meditation
I wonder if there is any kind of formal analytic meditation within theravada. Some kind of meditation in which one looks intelectually on a specific subject. For example wheter it is more useful to surf on dhammawheel.com or rereading some of ones favorite suttas. Just to name some silly sample Can ...

Re: Osama bin Laden is dead
I understand that most of the terrorists recently caught in the west have been self recruited and self directed. Osamas death is mostly symbolic and will not change anything. Excactly my thinking. What causes me to be frigthened is the need of an personated evil for the western (american) politics....

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso
Can someone please help me understanding the differences between - siladharas - bhikkhunis - dasasilamatas - nun Searching around one and the same label is used in different contexts. A definition of all these labels out of one source would help me a lot to understand the differences between them. T...

Are you able to give me a quick link for further reading?Ron-The-Elder wrote:Next I discovered stories about Buddha which revealed that he found sitting in meditation to be a method of contemplation of The Dhamma
I´m generally interested in methods of active contemplation within sitting meditation.
Thank you.
