Re: What a lay practitioner shouldn't do ?

I would suggest that by doing what feels right to you would be the right way. You develop wisdom along the way and you will know the answers for yourself then. Put effort in the practice and the rest will come. An example for me was becoming a vegetarian. I never considered being one but after I had...

Re: Ordination in Thailand

Thanks for all the information. I had a lovely stay in Cittaviveka. Everyone was warm and most importantly it seems to have potential for serious practice. It was also absolutely beautiful and so I feel that I don't need to look any further. But I am still tempted to go to Thailand. Only time will t...

Re: Poll: Are you vegetarian/vegan?

I am vegetarian. While being mindful of what I eat, I now find it impossible to even fathom putting meat into my mouth. If it happens accidentally then it is not a problem. For example I used to go to this Vietnamese restaurant in London and would order monk's soup. It was lovely with so much fresh ...

Re: Hello from England, Poland, and USA

Hi & Welcome to Dhammawheel! Which monastery is that in? I will be in Amaravaty from the 14th of this month (again) for 3 months where I will hopefully start the process! Thanks everyone. I will be in Cittaviveka from the 7th of November for the Kathina Ceremony until the 27th for their "F...

Taking care of parents.

Hello, I am wondering whether a Bhikkhu would be allowed to take care of his elderly parents when the time comes that they need it? It seems it would be difficult for a monk without the Sangha and of course the lay support.

Thank You,
B

Hello from England, Poland, and USA

Hello, Thought I should introduce myself since i have already posted once or twice. I was born in Poland but grew up in the US, mostly in Florida. I work as a sound engineer and have been on tour for a few years, worked on cruise ships for about six years, and now live and work in the south of Engla...

Re: What is holding you back from ordaining?

The one thing holding me back from ordaining is my parent's.

My question is whether a Bhikkhu would be allowed to take care of his elderly parents when the time comes that they need it? This would play easier on mother's heart as well as mine.

Re: Ordination in Thailand

Does anyone have any information about Wat Tha Ma O? I cannot locate a website which may suggest it wouldn't be easy to ordain there as an english speaker.. If you are referring to the Burmese Pali center in the North, Talk to the monks at Section 25 in Wat Mahadhatu, BKK. They are connected. I hea...
