Re: Dog Behaviourist - Blatant self-promoting!
I'm sorry to sound harsh, but I do say "Ensure that everyone concerned is following this technique to the letter ". maybe I should emphasise that more strongly, because if the dog perceives disparity in the pack, they will assume that those not manifesting pack behaviour, are subordinates...

Re: Dog Behaviourist - Blatant self-promoting!
Well, I would say things with Mai-Tai in terms of barking at the windows remains about the same. I have followed the instructions in the doc you emailed. In my estimation I have followed them faithfully with some exceptions. For example I reflexively petted the dogs last night when they approached m...

Re: About the value of studies
I have the utmost respect for the scientific method and less than the utmost respect for how various groups have manipulated trust in the scientific method for their own gains. Of all the means of gaining knowledge I believe the scientific method reins supreme in those areas where it can be applied....

Re: The Truths and the Myths about "God" in Buddhism!
I'm not so sure that's true bodom. there is no need for us to worship or pray to a god in order to follow the path to awakening or to experience nibbana, however the Buddha mentioned gods many times, and if our myths are true it was a god who convinced the Buddha to teach the path in the 1st place....

what's wrong with eating meat?
Please answer the question without referring to another's words including the Buddha's. As a new Buddhist I understand the first precept as follows: Abstain from killing. I don't understand why this applies to animals. It is my understanding that even monks under the Buddha were allowed to eat meat ...

Re: Why so little donations to Pakistan?
I pretty much never donate money to foreign nations no matter how bad their plight is. I pretty much never donate money to the nation I am a citizen of no matter how bad other citizen's plight is. I do offer money to people I see who need help. I don't do it as well or as much as I could, but I am w...

Re: Dog Behaviourist - Blatant self-promoting!
Thanks for the tip, beeblebrox. Unfortunately the pinch collar was our last resort collar. We tried harnesses (big mistake) and we also tried a few of the 'gentle leader' type collars. Mai-Tai slips out of every one of them. His neck is very broad, more so than his head so even keeping a regular co...

Re: Dog Behaviourist - Blatant self-promoting!
Mai-Tai pulls like a semi-truck. He gets a pinch collar. Before using the pinch collar I would walk him and stop immediately when he pulled. I couldn't move ;) If I may jump in... I recommend "Gentle Leader." I think it's way more effective than a pinch collar. It's basically a regular co...

Re: Dog Behaviourist - Blatant self-promoting!
If you are still offering free advice, I will bite. I have 2 dogs, a Golden Retriever (Connor) and a Yellow Lab (Mai-Tai). Both are approx 2 years old and both are neutered. The dog/issue I would like help on is with Mai-Tai. He has a tendency to bark. I don't mind barking on occasion, but sometimes...

Re: If you could only recommend 4 books...
Your list includes Mindfulness in Plain English, but links to Insight Meditation: A Step-By-Step Course on How to Meditate. Have not read Insight, but have read Mindfulness and would recommend it. Would also recommend Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness for Introductory dhamma. Too new to make other re...

Re: Introduction to Insight Meditation
Thank you for this. It is very concise and seems useful when I am asked the question 'So, what is Buddhist meditation, exactly'. When I got to the end of the first page I saw there were no more so when you say it is 20 pages I assume your reader must display it differently than mine.
