Re: Children
Raising kids helped me understand what unconditional love is.
Caring for them provided me with a great opportunity to generate good karma.
Focusing on their needs made me focus less on myself, making me less selfish.

Re: Drugs and re-enlightenment?
It sounds like you have tasted some fruit of your practice. These pleasures are more enjoyable that the mundane pleasures (ie euphoria that comes from using cannabis). As a result, the mundane pleasures are starting to lose their appeal to you. Good job!

Re: Issue that comes up often
Its deeply ingrained in my subconcious because whenever I walk past a tall guy I feel this physical heaviness and I feel this sense of inferiority and weakness. Just imagine both of you sitting on a plane. Who has the physical heaviness now? I'm kidding of course. The metta towards the oth...

Re: The anapana spot?
I believe (please correct me if I’m wrong), Ajahn Brahm in one of his talks explained that “setting mindfulness to the fore” can be translated as making the mindfulness your highest priority. So, before even starting to notice your breath, one must establish mindfulness first. That translation makes...

Re: Sotapanna's Childhood
Interesting perspective, but doesn't it imply that sotapannas become arahats during the same life when they became stream-winners? Not necessarily. One can become a sotapanna and then go on to further noble attainments in this very life. The Suttas are replete with examples of this. Yes, I agree th...

Re: Sotapanna's Childhood
How does a sotapanna behave ? Unless you are a sotapanna or higher you wouldn't be able to absolutely identify one. I assume that sotapanna behaves like the being who realized that there is no-self. As a result, this selfless person is not affected by desires and anger the same way we do. I underst...

Re: Sotapanna's Childhood
It's possible the seven lives part of the sotapanna pericope isn't actually referring to seven more rebirths, as the word usually translated into "lives" is literally a billet, a sort of bedding arrangement. There are seven more fetters to eliminate before arahatship, and seven more stage...

Sotapanna's Childhood
I understand that Sotapanna is a person that, among other things, managed to eradicate the self-view. One thing I was curious about is that when the sotapanna dies and is reborn as a human again, does he develop the self-view in his childhood and then abandons it upon reaching the adulthood or does ...

Re: Sri Lankan Newspaper Interviews Ajahn Brahm
In my opinion, ones with duty like directors, managers, or normal employees must think about the past to learn from it, and planning the future based on it to maximize profit and happiness to self and relative. The key concept isn't "forget the past", but "brings no delight to bear o...

Re: Analytic meditation
This stillness of mind is arrived at VIA thinking not concentrating, when mindfulness with breathing is actually practiced it is a culmination of previous calming through thoughts (of dhamma). Even mwb is not(should not be) a "concentration" exercise, it is a method to delve deeper into t...
