Re: What was the Buddha reffering to as "house-builder"?

"Through the round of many births I roamed without reward, without rest, seeking the house-builder. Painful is birth again & again. House-builder, you're seen! You will not build a house again. All your rafters broken, the ridge pole destroyed, gone to the Unformed, the mind has come to th...

Re: Emptiness

I wonder what the Pali is for 'glob'... It's "Gul," or "Gula." :) Source: http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/search3advanced?dbname=pali&query=clump&matchtype=exact&display=utf8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Guḷa : (page 253) guṇik...

Re: Emptiness

Hi all, Cacn someone explain how Theravadin meditation practices - following the breath, vipassana etc... - can bring about an experience of Emptiness. I see how the Tibetans do it, via nalytical thought, but I can't see how the same outcome would happen through methods like Vipassana? Thanks in ad...

Re: Kamma_2 Questions

1- Kamma law is a hard one to get. There are some situations in real life that makes me a lot of confusion, so let me see if i can explain it, so you can understand my doubts and help me. I was confused about "Karma" at one point. Then one of my grampas who is a Bhikkhu got tired of me as...

Re: Reincarnation Question.

If I may add my own insights and personal understandings to this thread: Hindus believe in reincarnation, transmigration of soul, rebirth, or whatever it's called these days.... ...fixation of one's own consciousness is what keeps you bound in Samsara. It is your/our own fault that we are "stu...

Re: Reincarnation Question.

If I may add my own insights and personal understandings to this thread: Hindus believe in reincarnation, transmigration of soul, rebirth, or whatever it's called these days. The basic premise is that something living inside you [soul/atma] leaves your body and enters a new body, and is reborn life ...

Re: cultural differences and teaching

Great post, Chloe  Can I just comment on one section? You said, "So this is my main contention with Buddhism spreading in the West. I think it's a wonderful and beautiful thing, but it's spreading "backwards" into the Occident, with the wrong End first. And I mean no disrespec...

Re: cultural differences and teaching

This is a very interesting subject, one which I have been talking about and debating over recently. I didn't realize I stumbled upon a "Western" Buddhist forum [meaning that most Theravadins here are of Western descent]. I've never known or had a dialogue with a Westerner who is a Theravad...

Re: Hi I'm Chloe.

Welcome Chloe9! :anjali: Thank you Bodom :) I love your signature quote [it's something I agree with very much]: "The real Buddhism is not books, not manuals, not word for word repetition from the Tipitaka, nor is it rites and rituals. These are not the real Buddhism. The real Buddhism is the ...
